Access to practice provides a basic introduction to the key elements of safety science. These elements underpin all domains of the syllabus, and are: systems thinking, risk expertise, human factors and safety culture. Access to practice comprises 2 sessions.
By the end of the course you should be able to:
recognise 4 key themes of systems, human factors, risk and safety culture
explain the systems approach to risk and safety
explain proactive and reactive approaches to safety
recognise hazards and risks
Outline how to quantify and rank risks
describe the consensus-based approach to risk
recognise human factors as a human-centred, participatory design-based discipline, focussed on improving outcomes
describe human factors as a systems-discipline
explain error as an outcome of system interactions, contextualise human performance within the wider system
explain the role and context of non-technical skills
recognise organisational culture and the principles of safety culture
outline the effect of blame on reporting and learning culture |
