Course title: Shared Decision Making
Target audience: Clinical Staff
Course Description: Shared Decision Making means people are supported to understand the care, treatment, and support options available and the risks, benefits, and consequences of those options, and decide on the a preferred course of action, based on evidence based good quality information, and their personal preferences. Its a process in which practitioners and individuals work together to select tests, treatments, management, or support packages, based on evidence and the individuals preferences. Whilst Shared Decision Making training focuses on face-to-face conversations that practitioners have with individuals, if you work within the wider workforce in a non-patient facing role, it is still relevant to you. The training can develop your knowledge by giving insight as to what Personalised Care means and how it works in practice. This will enable all staff working as part of the wider system & their colleagues to understand the ethos of working towards a more Personalised Care Approach as part of the NHS Long Term Plan. Shared Decision Making is relevant in any non life threatening situations when a health or care decision needs to be made, and a range of options (including nothing) is available. To be eligible for this training you must be employed or a volunteer within Nottingham or Nottinghamshire. Please note you will need to be available for the full session over 3 hours to attend and get CPD points A 3 hour training session, delivered virtually, designed to support practitioners to learn the process of good quality Sharded Decision Making and provide individuals with the knowledge and skills to support them in making decisions about their health and care. The training covers: Overview of Shared Decision making Brief Introduction to how we make decisions Brief introduction to health literacy Key elements of Shared Decision making conversations Shared Decision Making skills and practice
